Its role, authority and powers are established in the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants Act (Canada). The College sets and enforces the licensing, education and ethical standards of the profession in the public interest.

How will this role support our team?

The incumbent fulfills the College’s public awareness mandate through consistent messaging and brand building through the media and issues management with various stakeholders. This includes supporting the Manager, Issues Management and Stakeholder and Government Relations, and where appropriate, the Leadership Team (LT) to deliver information about the College and its programs to licensees, the media, the public and other stakeholders.


Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)

  • Monitor media stories daily and distribute to the LT highlighting relevant media and potential issues.
  • Act as first responder to media queries that come through a variety of channels (e.g., Department-specific email or phone call channels) and escalate to the manager for further action when required.
  • Collaborate with the Department and College subject-matter experts (SMEs) to research appropriate responses to media questions and stakeholder issues.
  • Track, research and identify systemic issues and trends in media calls and within the sector. Provide regular reports to the manager, director and Senior Communications Advisors for distribution to LT and business partners.
  • Write content for media responses and other communications products such as briefings, website text, news releases, scripts, speeches, presentations, correspondence related to issues, etc., for the Manager’s review.

This role will support our team by providing:

  • Understanding of the College’s key target audiences to contribute to and recommend best reach for these audiences.
  • Ability to proofread and edit communications products for clarity, accuracy and consistent messaging.
  • Analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply a proactive and forward-thinking approach to the College’s, media and stakeholder activities.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced changing environment as a collaborative team player who demonstrates initiative.

Required Education and Experience

  • College Diploma in a related field.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in media and issues management.
