Licensing Information 


Once you successfully pass the Entry-to-Practice Exam (EPE), the College will walk you through the licensing process.    

Once you obtain your RCIC licence or your RISIA licence, you must meet your licensing obligations.

 

Class L1 - RCIC
  • Licensee cannot practise before the IRB.
  • Licensee is a graduate of the previously accredited Immigration Practitioner Program and was licensed on or after July 1, 2022.
  • Licensee must complete the New-Licensee Mentoring Program within 12 months of licensing. Licensees who do not complete the Mentoring Program within the prescribed time will have their licence suspended under 10.7(d) of the By-laws until they have successfully completed the Mentoring Program or reach revocation deadline.

 

Class L2 – RCIC
  • Licensee cannot practise before the IRB unless they are also a paralegal licensed by the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Licensee is a graduate of the Immigration Practitioner Program or was a member of CSIC prior to joining the College’s predecessor, ICCRC.
  • Licensee has completed the New-Licensee Mentoring Program or was licensed prior to July 1, 2022.
  • Licensees must complete the Specialization Program and pass the Specialization Exam to move to Class L3 – RCIC-IRB – Unrestricted Practice if they want to practise before the IRB unless they are also a paralegal licensed by the Law Society of Ontario.

Class L3 – RCIC-IRB
  • Licensee can practise before the IRB.
  • Licensee is either:
    - a graduate of the previously accredited Immigration Practitioner Program who has completed both the New-Licensee Mentoring Program (if licensed on or after July 1, 2022) and Specialization Program and passed the Specialization Exam; or
    - a graduate of the Graduate Diploma Program (GDP) and must complete the New-Licensee Mentoring Program (if licensed on or after July 1, 2022) within 12 months of licensing. Licensees who are required to but do not complete the New-Licensee Mentoring Program within the prescribed time will have a condition placed on their licence by the Registrar under 10.8 of the By-laws which revert their licence to Class L1 – RCIC, and will have their licence suspended under 10.7(d) of the By-laws until they have successfully completed the Mentoring Program or reach revocation deadline.

 

Class L4 – RISIA
  • Licensee was licensed on or after July 1, 2022, and must complete the New-Licensee Mentoring Program within 12 months of licensing.

 

Class L5 – RISIA
  • Licensee has completed the New-Licensee Mentoring Program or was licensed prior to July 1, 2022.
