How will this role support our team?
The incumbent manages all Human Resources (HR) activities for the College. This includes day to-day generalist activities; operational activities; and strategic activities/initiatives that contribute to the employee experience and overall success of the organization. The incumbent is a member of the Department management team and contributes to the Leadership Team and to the direction and ongoing operational improvements of the Department.
Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)
- Manage the operations of the Unit. Develop and execute on the Unit’s strategy and provide leadership, mentorship, and management of the team.
- Manage the HR function and provide HR expertise to Leadership Team, peer managers and employees on a wide range of human resources matters (e.g., employee relations, performance management, recruitment, training and development, employee engagement, job description writing and evaluation, workforce planning, absence management, compensation, benefits, terminations, disability management, change management, legislative compliance, and health and safety).
- Contribute to the development of short and long-term strategic plans for the function and Department by identifying emerging trends and opportunities for ongoing process improvements.
- Manage the collection, monitoring, and analysis of data to measure the effectiveness of the function’s operations; identify process improvements; provide information for budget/audit purposes and make recommendations on changes to process, procedures and technology needs.
- Manage the provision of advice, guidance and compliance reporting for legislation affecting the College including but not limited to the Canada Labour Code, Employment Equity Act, Pay Equity Act, Accessible Canada Act and Official Languages Act.
This role will support our team by providing
- Knowledge of HR best practices, trends, and employment-related legislation (e.g., Canadian Human Rights Act, Canada Labour Code, Accessible Canada Act, Pay Equity Act)
- Analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify issues, mitigate against associated risk, and lead the resolution of complex issues related to HR
- Time management, organizational and decision-making skills to manage and prioritize competing priorities and deadlines
- Flexibility to work in a fast-paced changing environment as a collaborative team player who demonstrates initiative
Required Education and Experience
- University Degree (Bachelor) in a related field
- Human Resources Designation (CHRP or CHRL) and related on-going continuing professional development to maintain the designation
- 7-10 years of progressive generalist, strategic and operational experience providing services and management in culture development and compliance requirements
