How will this role support our team?
The incumbent directs the College’s Finance Department and ensures internal controls, systems, programs, policies, and procedures are delivered in accordance with accounting standards, organizational needs, and legislative requirements. The incumbent owns the College’s financial strategy and provides financial insights to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Board of Directors. The incumbent is a member of the Leadership Team (LT) and contributes to the strategic planning and ongoing operational improvements of the College.
Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)
- Provide executive leadership to the Department.
o Lead, mentor and coach the Finance Department, foster a culture of accountability, accuracy and continuous improvement.
- Provide financial insights to the (CEO) and Board of Directors to support decision making.
o Serve as the primary financial liaison to the Finance and Audit Committee (FAC) and the Board of Directors.
- Own the design and implementation of internal financial controls to protect assets, confirm the integrity of financial reporting and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Own the forecasting and budgeting process to confirm alignment with the College’s strategic priorities and ongoing financial stability.
- Lead the annual audit process and take ownership of implementing corrective recommendations and presenting outcomes to the FAC.
- Direct the accurate preparation, review and filing of statutory reports in accordance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- Own the design, development, implementation, and monitoring of accounting systems and controls to support the functions of payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, general ledger, etc. in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal standards.
This role will support our team by providing:
- Analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to understand and develop comprehensive financial reports and financial models.
- Time management, organizational and decision-making skills to manage and prioritize competing priorities and deadlines.
- Flexibility to work in a fast-paced changing environment as a collaborative team player who demonstrates initiative.
Required Education and Experience
- University Degree (Bachelor) with an Accounting or Finance focus.
- Accounting designation. Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in Canada.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in finance and audit including experience working in a regulatory environment and/or member-based professional association.
