How will this role support our team?
The Senior HR Advisor will utilize their collaboration, critical thinking and communication skills to support the Manager, Human Resources, to research, develop and execute HR strategies, initiatives and programs focused on recruitment, talent management and development, employee engagement, performance management, organizational effectiveness, health and safety and legislative compliance.
Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)
- Support the Manager, Human Resources in delivering and leading select strategic, operational and functional programs and services that are aligned with the College’s strategic objectives.
- Lead the development of planned outcomes and measures related to the management and development of people, including coaching and developing business leaders to grow/enhance their people management capabilities.
- Provide guidance and support to clients on policies and procedures, full cycle recruitment, employee relations, employee engagement, talent development, compensation and benefits, health and safety and legislative compliance.
- Lead and/or participate in compliance reporting for legislation affecting the College including the Employment Equity Act, Pay Equity Act, Accessible Canada Act and Official Languages Act.
- Identify and address issues/trends that affect the College including morale, turnover, absenteeism, efficiency, and productivity.
- Collaborate with the Manager to develop new policies and/or identify updates to existing policies.
- Co-create and/or present training materials on a range of employment-related topics.
- Participate as a member of the Workplace Health and Safety Committee to ensure the College’s obligations under relevant legislation are met.
- Prepare correspondence and other materials, update the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and provide reports to clients.
- Keep up to date and ensure compliance with legislative requirements, employment laws and emerging trends.
This role will support our team by providing:
- Customer focus and service orientation with an ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels of the College
- Analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess business needs, gather perspectives and insights, including research, to deliver optimal solutions
- Judgement and logic to provide interpretation of, and education on compliance requirements
- Time management and organizational skills to manage competing priorities and deadlines
- Interpersonal and stakeholder relationship management skills to influence change, engage with others respectively and build collaborative relationships
- Written and verbal communication skills to prepare HR documentation, provide advice on difficult conversations, conduct interviews, explain HR policies and represent the College effectively and respectfully
- Ability to be proactive and take initiative to address systemic issues and recommend options for consideration
- Computer literacy, including word processing software, spreadsheet functions, database use and internet search capabilities
- Experience with BambooHR is an asset
Required Education and Experience
- 5–7 years of progressive experience providing strategic, operational and functional HR advice, services and support
- CHRP/CHRL (or provincial equivalent) designation
- Knowledge of HR best practices, trends and applicable employment legislation (e.g., Canadian Human Rights Act, Canada Labour Code, Accessible Canada Act, Pay Equity Act, Employment Equity Act and common law)
