How will this role support our team?

The Manager, IT leads and manages the College’s information technology functions including IT systems and security. The incumbent is responsible for day-to-day operations of the IT unit, confirming IT systems, solution providers, infrastructure and support services meet the College’s needs. The incumbent is a member of the Department management team and contributes to the direction and ongoing operational improvements of the Department.


Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)

  • Manage the operations of the Unit. Develop and execute on the Unit’s strategy and provide leadership, mentorship, and management of the team.
  • Manage information technology functions, including but not limited to systems coordination and design, networking, security, budgets, hardware and software maintenance, computer hardware, software and cloud infrastructure and providing technical guidance to the team.
  • Access and action IT requests and applications within the context of the College’s regulatory needs and compliance requirements (e.g., privacy impact assessments (PIAs), Access to Information Act (ATIA), Privacy Act (PA), Libraries and Archives of Canada Act, threat and risk assessments (TRAs), sanctioned counties, public interest, government institution, etc.).
  • Manage the implementation, maintenance and optimization of IT systems, networks and infrastructure.
  • Maintain IT systems in accordance with relevant regulations, standards and best practices with a focus on data security and privacy.
  • Manage security protocols to protect the College’s data and IT assets, computer hardware, software and cloud infrastructure.

This role will support our team by providing:

  • Analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify issues, mitigate against associated risk, and lead the resolution of same
  • Time management, organizational and decision-making skills to manage and prioritize competing priorities and deadlines
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced changing environment as a collaborative team player who demonstrates initiative
  • Troubleshooting skills with the ability to offer innovative ideas, communicate instructions, provide clear guidelines, and address concerns
  • Interpersonal and stakeholder relationship management skills to engage others and collaborate effectively in a team
  • Written and verbal communication skills to communicate with stakeholders to understand their requirements, build consensus, and provide technical details to IT and non-IT stakeholders
  • Attention to detail to ensure IT requirements are met, complex systems issues are resolved, and integrity and security of systems and data are mitigated
  • Coaching and management skills to inspire, motivate and develop employees and team members
  • Ability to understand project management principles to plan and execute on IT projects

Required Education and Experience

  • University Degree (Bachelor) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 7-10 years’ experience managing an IT function, including systems and network security
  • In depth knowledge of IT systems, networking and security practices
  • Knowledge of programming, scripting, and database operations
  • Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and expenditures management
