The Strengthening Canada's Immigration System and Borders Act (Bill C-12) received Royal Assent and became law on March 26, 2026.
Bill C-12 made amendments to Canada’s immigration and asylum claim system, including changes to:
- Eligibility requirements for new claims
- Asylum process
- Information sharing
- Immigration document and application authorities
As per section 19(2)(a) of the Code of Professional Conduct, licensees are reminded that it is their responsibility to keep up to date about changes in the immigration field and advise clients accordingly.
